Micromax, the desi smartphone maker is planning to develop its own Android Custom ROM. Micromax is now following the footsteps of top brands like Xiaomi, Lenovo, Asus, Gionee, Huawei etc as they developed their own forked version of Android. Xiaomi has MIUI, Lenovo named it as VibeUI, Asus has ZenUI and the lists go on. I don’t know what Micromax will name its custom ROM. Building an own custom ROM helps in many ways to control the services and devices. For a company like Micromax, it’s necessary to have own OS as they offer a wide range of devices.

Micromax co-founder Vikas Jain in an interview of with Economic Times, revealed the plans to launch own OS.  Ashish Agarwal a new technology head at Micromax will be leading to develop a forked version of Android. Vikas Jain said, ” We will be announcing new OS by the end of this financial year“.  It seems the company is taking crucial steps to counterpart the competitors. He added saying “We are excellent with partnerships and we don’t want to reinvent the wheel“.

The company hired developers from Nokia R&D to develop the new OS. The ROM aimed for using services and apps which will be running on Mobiles, Wearables, Tablets and TV. On the other hand. the forked version will also support YU devices. YU is the sub-brand of Micromax which is currently partnered with Cyanogen. The YU devices will also receive the same services and apps. As of now we don’t much information about the new OS from Micromax.
